Investigated the circuit causing repeated tripping, which supplies the kitchen sockets, ground-floor sockets and one bedroom socket upstairs.

During testing, it was identified that the circuit is a radial circuit rather than the expected ring final circuit and is protected by a 32A MCB. Due to the cable configuration and circuit arrangement, this was identified as a separate safety concern and was reported to Equity 07377 421387. It was recommended that the 32A MCB be replaced with a 16A MCB. However, approval could not be obtained via WhatsApp during the visit, so the MCB replacement was not carried out.

Fault finding was then carried out by isolating and testing the sockets individually. As the circuit is radial, each socket was checked to trace the source of the fault. The earth fault was located at a socket in the upstairs bedroom and the fault was rectified.

The property’s electrical installation is generally old and, based on the condition and circuit arrangement identified during testing, rewiring of the installation is recommended to bring the electrical system to a safer and more appropriate standard.
